Ashfield MP Lee Anderson has confirmed that he will be standing for the Conservative Party again in the area at the next election
. Conservative MPs across the country have been confirming whether they will stand at the next election, despite it not being due to take place until May 2024.
But Sky News reports that Conservative MPs had a deadline of Monday to confirm whether they would stand at the next election. Lee Anderson, who was elected as Ashfield's Conservative MP in 2019, has now confirmed his intentions. He posted on Twitter: "I have told my party I intend to stand at the next election. The polls had me in third place last time. Wait for the bogus polls again from the delusional left-wing agitators."It comes after a polling website predicted that the Conservative Party would lose all of its Nottinghamshire MPs bar one at the next election.
Mr Anderson has provoked controversy in recent weeks with his comments on issues such as illegal immigration and transgender rights. He previously served as a Labour councillor in Ashfield, but won for the Conservative Party with a vote share of nearly 40% in 2019.
