Prices have been creeping up across the country
Prices in supermarkets have been creeping up for weeks now as the cost of living continues to take its toll - and one supermarket has upped its prices significantly by comparison. Every week the the M.E.N has been comparing a basket of basics to keep track of prices.
And this week it has found that the supermarket that was cheapest six weeks ago for the basket is now the most expensive. It discovered that Morrisons has gone from £9.78 at the end of May up to £11.15 - an increase of 14%. Morrisons' high meat costs have also contributed to its position in the bottom spot - for the last few weeks its chicken, at £2.49 for a 300g pack, and its mince at £2.19 for 500g, have been the most expensive of the lot. It's this week's rise at Sainsbury's - where chicken has increased from £2.40 to £2.50 - which has put the two on par for that particular product.
