Scotland's leading murder prosecutor says the teenager's death at the hands of her older brother is 'distressing and impossible to comprehend' after a judge sentenced him to life behind bars.
The murder of Amber Gibson by her own brother is "impossible to comprehend", a leading Scottish prosecutor insists.
A second man Stephen Corrigan, 45, was sentenced to nine years behind bars after being found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and breach of the peace by intimately touching and concealing Amber's body after finding her in the days that followed.She said: "The circumstances of Amber Gibson’s death are both distressing and impossible to comprehend. This 16-year-old girl, with her whole life ahead of her, should have been protected by her older brother, Connor Gibson.
“As prosecutors, we have worked hard to deliver justice for Amber. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscals Service team used every tool at our disposal to ensure these two men face the consequences of their despicable actions.Gibson, 21, was jailed for life after a jury found him guilty following a 13-day trial, during which details of forensic evidence were heard.
Amber's foster family could be heard sobbing in the public gallery as an emotionless Gibson was led away to begin his sentence.
