Series of arsons caused £1.1million of damage as couple set out to destroy competitor's business
An EncroChat drug trafficker plotted a series of petrol bomb attacks on a pub after being commissioned by the landlady of a rival establishment.
This saw a window smashed shortly after 3.15am, with accelerant then poured into the pub - located only a stone's throw from Aintree Racecourse - and set alight. CCTV footage showed a huge explosion hitting one of the main function rooms. Forensic examination of a bottle and hat found near the scene resulted in the arrests of Swanson and Reynolds on July 19. The former angrily told police officers as they apprehended him: "I want to know what I’ve set on fire.A series of incriminating text messages then linked the other conspirators to the crime.
The Court of Appeal later reduced Swanson's sentence to six years. Farragher's prison term was meanwhile cut to four years. He was further incriminated on April 6 2020 when "FierceCrow", described in previous reports in the ECHO as an "international drug trafficker" whose identity is unknown, made a reference to the defendant's daughter having previously made a cameo appearance in Hollyoaks.
