The incredible safety in Formula 1 was highlighted as Lance Stroll was able to walk away from a horrifying crash at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The Canadian lost the rear end of his Aston Martin by hitting a kerb heading into the final turn of the Yas Marina circuit during qualifying.Which made Stroll's emergence all the more welcomePlanting his number 18 car straight into the wall at an estimated 150mph, hearts were in mouths as Stroll’s car was strewn across the main straight in pieces, prompting an instant red flag.
Incredibly, though, Stroll was straight up and out of his cockpit without any assistance from stewards or medical staff. His race engineer was heard on team radio saying: “Lance the car is safe, are you OK?” to which the Aston Martin driver replied: “Yeah I’m OK.” Responding to the incident on Sky commentary, David Croft summed up the emotion of Stroll emerging from his car by saying: “A huge sigh of relief breathed around the world.”
