James was helping Davis defend the rim, but the Lakers were up two points and needed to prevent a 3. He should’ve been closer to Mathurin as well, especially after seeing that Westbrook was taking Turner.
The larger point that shouldn’t be lost in the minutia of the game is that the Lakers shouldn’t have been in this position in the first place. They wasted notable efforts from Westbrook and Davis .
