Angela Rayner said Michael Shanks would not face possible suspension from the party's Westminster group as 'that's not how we work in the Labour Party'.
Labour's candidate in the Rutherglen by-election would not be suspended if he voted in future against the two-child benefit cap, its deputy leader has said.
It comes after Shanks said he wanted to scrap the two-child benefit limit - despite Keir Starmer previously insisting said the party would not do so as it cannot make uncosted spending commitments.. "Obviously if backbench MPs vote against the whip then... they do do that from time to time and they have done that.
