'It's always good to be wanted. And when somebody gives up something to get him, I think that says a lot about the situation.'
“That’s what I told other guys,” Juszczyk said. “The NFL moves quick, man, and this is a perfect example of it.”
Said Kittle: “It’s not college where guys are around the whole time, for four to five years. It’s in and out. You get one-year guys., for example. I played my first three years with Garrett Celek and Joe Staley, two guys who are no longer in the NFL. It changes really quickly. It doesn’t slow down for anybody. It just moves on.”
Juszczyk marveled at how much change the 49ers have seen in such a short period of time at quarterback. A year ago at this time, Lance was the team’s No. 1 quarterback and Garoppolo was still working alone on a side field before the 49ers unexpectedly re-signed him as Lance’s backup.Las Vegas Raiders“I feel like, in a lot of other environments, it would be a lot harder pill to swallow,” Juszczyk said.
Shanahan, meanwhile, said he thought Lance still can become the quarterback the 49ers thought he’d become when they drafted him with the No. 3 in 2021. But with Purdy taking the lion’s share of practice repetitions — and Darnold getting the rest — he knew Lance wouldn’t get enough opportunity to improve.
“Trey needs an opportunity to play,” he said. “When he’s had those two opportunities here, he’s gotten hurt in both of them and missed that window a little bit.
