The King has approved an order that the day of the Queen’s funeral will be a bank holiday
A stream of people have crossed a bridge over the River Dee to lay flowers for the Queen at Balmoral Castle.
The mood at the central London royal residence was sombre, and despite the large number of mourners present, the area was quiet with people walking slowly and speaking in hushed tones.Members of the Cabinet will have their first meeting with the King just days after Liz Truss formed her new Government.
As she offered her condolences, the King shook her hand and thanked her, saying: “You are very kind for coming – I know how busy you are.”
