Kevin Clarke: Family ‘relieved’ police watchdog reopen investigation into death in custody case

THE FAMILY of a black man who died after being restrained have welcomed the decision by the police watchdog to reopen the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Wendy Strachan, the mother of Kevin Clarke, said: “We are relieved that the IOPC has finally come to a decision following the conclusion of its reopened investigation into Kevin’s death.“This process has taken nearly two years and our family is emotionally and physically exhausted with the delays and constant battle with the IOPC.

An inquest in October 2020 determined that he died as a result of a mental health crisis which led to exhaustion and cardiac arrest.
