Alf and Jo met whilst serving their country in WW2

A husband and wife from Corby have just celebrated a momentous birthday milestone together, after both reaching their 100th birthdays. They were joined for special celebrations by friends and family at Elm Bank Care Home in Kettering last month.

During World War 2, Alf was a serving marine whilst Jo worked as a Land Army Girl. After getting married in 1947 Alfred worked in Corby Steelworks whilst Josephine enjoyed playing the piano and organ for many years. The couple are said to have enjoyed spending most of their weekends playing in the local pubs and clubs. They also enjoyed a very active social life and going out in their caravan.

Staff at Elm Bank held a party for the happy couple on Saturday, September 30, including a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Sharntelle. Jo and Alf’s grandchildren and great-Grandchildren also attended the party. At NorthantsLive we're more than just news. We cover what people are talking about every day and celebrate the very best that this incredible part of the world has to offer.
