Bill Self is now the highest-paid coach in college basketball. With the NCAA enforcement case finally behind Kansas, the University amended Self’s lifetime contract which is on a five-year rolling term and gave Self a substantial pay raise, more than doubling his base salary. Self will earn north of $13.7 million this season, which includes a $1 million signing bonus.
He landed the best transfer in the country in Hunter Dickinson and convinced fifth-year wing Kevin McCullar to return to school instead of entering the NBA Draft. The Jayhawks opened the season ranked No. 1 and are now arguably the most-equipped program to contend for national titles yearly. Self felt hindered through the last few years with the NCAA case making it difficult to recruit. Now the legendary coach has everything working to his advantage in the twilight years of his career.
