Merseyside police say they have made four arrests at the Open Championship after Just Stop Oil protesters citing “the dire consequences of our addiction to fossil fuels” were removed from the 17th hole
Birch, a university student from Leicestershire, said: “We’re on course for collapse. This week we have witnessed some of the dire consequences of our addiction to fossil fuels, with extreme heat warnings issued over three continents, putting countless people at risk of illness and death.
The three protesters set off a smoke flare and deposited orange powder paint on the green, which greenkeepers were able to remove with leaf blowers. “Police and R&A management will be looking to ensure the activities of anyone who wants to protest don’t disrupt the event itself and if necessary we will used relevant legislation to deal those people involved in it.
