The Antrim man joined the team in 2015 and was crowned world superbike champion for each of the following six seasons

Six-time world superbike champion Jonathan Rea has confirmed his departure from Kawasaki and now looks certain to switch to Yamaha at the end of the current season.

In 2012, Rea was pipped to the title by Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu and last year he finished in third place behind new champion Alvaro Bautista and Razgatlioglu as straight-line speed became an increasing issue for the Kawasaki team.Despite being the most successful superbike rider in the competition's history, Ballyclare native Rea has won only one of the 24 races so far this season with Bautista well on course to retain his title.

"During his time riding for the official factory team, 36-year-old Rea achieved an unprecedented haul of six WorldSBK titles as well as accruing a slew of other records including all-time WorldSBK records for Championships, Race Wins, Podiums, Fastest Laps and Overall Points Scored." “I want to thank everyone at KMC and KRT for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to prove myself at the highest level. I have learnt and grown so much as a person and a rider since the first day throwing my leg over the factory Ninja ZX-10R superbike," Rea said.
