Hitting out at those who “refuse to accept the facts behind the increasingly obvious damages of the climate crisis”, Kerry said that “without facts or economics on their side, they flatly deny what is happening to our planet and what we must do to save it.But while he said the Earth could be at “one of the most dangerous moments in human history”, he added it “may also be the greatest moment of opportunity for human advancement”.
The latest climate talks will take place almost a decade on from the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015 – where 200 nations vowed to try to keep global temperature rises to below 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. Despite that, Kerry insisted there are “many more reasons for optimism” as he highlighted the growth inHowever, he said the world is “now on the precipice of tipping points”, describing this as being “the point at which events can simply unfold of their own momentum, the point at which our reckless abuse of an ecosystem has unleashed forces of nature way beyond our control”.“But common sense tells us inaction doesn’t have a prayer of stopping what is happening.
