Joey Essex runs game of bingo for elderly as he backs our Helping Hands at Christmas campaign
This year, more than ever, clubs like this one will be a lifeline to the elderly and vulnerable.
At the Maldon Lunch and Social club, Joan and Diane are supported by a host of volunteers including 96-year-old Ivy George. She said: “It’s an amazing feeling volunteering and I’ve done it for years. They won’t let me do much now other than serve the tea in the morning.Joan and Diane are keen for more younger volunteers to sign up, as they need help with the more physical tasks, such as setting up tables and getting the room ready for service users.
