I was mesmerised from start to finish
The opening night of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Liverpool Empire was everything I expected and more.
For those of you that aren’t aware of the show, it focuses on the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Featuring songs such as ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘Superstar’ the soundtrack of the show focuses on the rock genre, which summoned plenty of toe-tapping in my seat to say the least.
Shem Omari James as Judas had some once again, jaw-dropping vocals, and gripped the audience completely with his stage presence. I particularly enjoyed the performance from Jad Habch who played the role of Caiaphas, with his impressive baritone vocals. They contrasted perfectly with Matt Bateman and his sassy, high-pitched singing.
