Liz Truss has appointed Jeremy Hunt as her new Chancellor following her decision to sack Kwasi Kwarteng in a day of high political drama in Westminster.

The Prime Minister has turned to the former health and foreign secretary as a safe pair of hands as she scrambles to restore some political credibility in the wake of a damaging six weeks in power.

Ms Truss has also taken the decision to sack Chief Secretary to the Treasury Chris Philp, who has now been moved to become the Paymaster General.The mini-reshuffle comes on a seismic day in Westminster, as Ms Truss desperately fights to regain control over her faltering premiership.
