A stunning spot whatever the weather
The Great British weather is an oxymoron as it is predictably unpredictable and it has taught us to have wellies, sun cream and towels in the car boot at all times. We're a just in case nation.
But Buttermere village and the hamlet of life surrounding it managed something remarkable. It still looked jaw-droppingly awesome, even under moody skies and poor visibility.The drive to the village is via a road parallel to Crummock Water to the right and the fells and mountains to the left. The low cloud and mist hovering above the water and the tips of the rolling hills also enveloped the road and created an atmospheric and dramatic drive with every turn.
Visitors looking for a bite to eat can dive into Sky Farm Tea Room or the Croft House Farm cafe while both hotel serve hot meals, too and ideal to shelter from the elements and dry your soaks out a bit. Buttermere is a favoured as a base for walkers, fell runners and hikers heading out on one of the plethora of trials, public paths and bridleways.Did you know? Scale Force is highest waterfall in the Lake District. It has a single drop of 170 ft, and two others of about 20 ft.
