He offered an explanation
Comedian Jason Manford says he deleted his initial response to a row over Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley because it is "too nuanced." It was reported earlier this week that an agency had approached a bakery to make several free cakes for an unnamed celebrity's birthday in exchange for promotion on social media and in OK! Magazine.
This celebrity was later revealed to be Catherine Tyldesley after the bakery concerned issued a statement on social media. Catherine then released a statement of her own saying she had no idea that emails were being sent, calling the agency concerned "amazing" and saying that she hoped the bakery got the publicity they wanted, Birmingham Live reports.
One user questioned whether this was a "slightly redacted version" of his original Facebook post. Jason replied: "I just deleted it all, it’s too nuanced to argue about on here. But people are generally good and abuse isn’t nice. Basically x." The user replied: "Fair enough. I do think the video reply was a little snidey, and it's out there for the world to see. But it has got blown out of proportion. I mean, there are worse things happening in the world than people asking for free cake."
