The Hoops boss has revealed the former Everton and Wigan midfielder will be looking to leave the club as he refused to be drawn on speculation over the future of ex-England No1 Hart beyond the summer.
Brendan Rodgers has revealed James McCarthy will LEAVE Celtic as he spoke about Joe Hart's future beyond the summer.
The 32-year-old has been previously linked with the exit door and now Rodgers has confirmed he will be looking to move on. He's described the situation as a 'real shame' for McCarthy and labelled him a 'fantastic talent' when he watched him south of the border. Rodgers said: “It’s a real shame for James, because growing up he was obviously a Celtic supporter. I saw him a lot in the Premier League and he was a fantastic talent.
“That’s going to take time and, in that time, I’ll get the chance to see it. There’s no question about Joe’s personality. He’s very humble and even at 36, I still see his hunger and desire every day. “There are other aspects of his game that he’s tried to develop, with his feet and accuracy of passing. But he’s at the stage of his career where he’s just enjoying it here. He probably thought this had passed him by - a real, big club mentality. But he’s had a great ride for a couple of seasons.”
