The start of the Italian Grand Prix had a bizarre aborted start after Yuki Tsunoda broke down on the formation lap.
With the Japanese's AlphaTauri stuck in gear, stewards were unable to move it in time for the race start, leaving the other 19 cars stuck on the grid.Tsunoda reported an 'engine failure' over team radio, and smoke was seen emerging from his no.22 car at the side of the circuit. Race stewards were unable to place it straight onto a truck, meaning the start had to be delayed with rest of the grid stranded burning fuel and losing heat in their tyres.
Red Bull's Sergio Perez was informed that the race start would be aborted on team radio and replied by saying: "What a mess." Elsewhere there was confusion, as mechanics were seen waiting at the end of the pitlane for permission to return to the circuit and prepare their cars.
