More than 50 were also injured, with dozens of ambulances and police cars rushing to Istiklal Avenue near Taksim Square.The street was previously targeted by a suicide bomber in 2016. Turkish President Erdogan told a news conference this afternoon: "Efforts to defeat Turkey and the Turkish people through terrorism will fail today just as they did yesterday and as they will fail again tomorrow.

"It would be wrong to say this is undoubtedly a terrorist attack but the initial developments and initial intelligence from my governor is that it smells like terrorism."A mother leads her son away from the damage.
