Carl Dempsey was taking part in the Gaelforce race in 2021 when he became ill and passed away
A woman whose husband died while participating in an adventure race two years ago has said the organisers of the Cork Ironman should have cancelled the event when two competitors died during the opening swim.
“I think it is one thing to continue on the race while someone is being attended to. But once you know there has been a fatality and in this Cork case, something that is extremely rare multiple fatalities, it should have been cancelled. I know Carl was a Cork man and we were only living here a few years but they still continue to commemorate him. His second anniversary is coming up on September 11 and the local GAA want to bring the kids walking up the local mountain, because the training for the children, including my own, falls on that day.
