The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has launched an investigation after a person died when a light aircraft crashed in Nottinghamshire. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 26, to the east of Darlton Airfield, near Retford.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.20pm and a team of AAIB inspectors arrived in the early evening. The inspectors have since been gathering evidence and an investigation has been launched. The incident had been responded to by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, Nottinghamshire Police and the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. Many neighbours in the area were unsure what had happened but were concerned over the large presence of emergency services.
A spokesperson said: "The AAIB has launched an investigation into a fatal accident involving a single engine light aircraft which occurred on 26 July 2023 east of Darlton Airfield, near Retford, Nottinghamshire. A team of inspectors arrived on site early in the evening of that day to gather evidence and begin an investigation."
