High-rise social housing project with 120 flats was earmarked for renovation but eventually written off
The project would take approximately 15 years, not least because the council would have to rehouse hundreds of Highways tenants.By 2019, the council realised it was best to cut its losses. Councillors voted to demolish The Highways and set a demolition date for December 2022.
No further tenants were allowed to move into The Highways, which had become one of Leeds' least desirable addresses. By 2021, all tenants had left both towers.
