The Indian Covid variant could spread up to 60% faster than the Kent strain, a scientist has suggested.

He said this indicates it is 60% more transmissible than the Kent variant, which fuelled Britain’s devastating second wave. Official figures show the Indian variant has infected 520 people in the UK, while the Sanger Institute found it was accounting forEnhanced contact tracing measures have been put in place by PHE while the health body investigates whether it could be more deadly.
