THE demolition of a dilapidated shopping centre in Alexandria is now underway.
Aerial images recently taken from above Mitchell Way show piles of debris have been removed from the remaining buildings. The photos, taken by Craig Jump, also appear to show that windows and other household items such as sinks and radiators are being taken out by workers.
In August last year, it was confirmed that after two decades of discussion, the centre would be flattened to make way for a new supermarket. Members of West Dunbartonshire Council's infrastructure, redevelopment, and economic development committee agreed to demolish the buildings and hand the land over to Lidl.application was submitted to the local authority at the beginning of 2022 by the organisation which wanted to develop a new store with more than 130 parking spaces.
WDC's planning department later advised that a 25,000ft shop, with 135 parking spaces, and separate customer and service access from Bank Street would be the best way forward.
