The Fagradalsfjall volcano in Iceland has erupted, with molten lava and smoke seen spewing from a fissure in the ground. The Fagradalsfjall volcano is located 20 miles southwest of the capital Reykjavik and not far from Keflavik Airport.
An eruption in the same area in May last year produced spectacular lava flows for several months
Iceland, which is located above a volcanic hotspot in the North Atlantic, sees an eruption every four to five years on average. But unlike the 2010 eruption, this one is not expected to spew much ash or smoke into the atmosphere.
