Jarell Quansah reflects on breaking into the Liverpool first team this season ahead of Wednesday's League Cup trip to Bournemouth
Jarell Quansah has admitted he wasn’t ready to make his Liverpool debut before Jurgen Klopp handed him his senior breakthrough this season.
But now handed his senior breakthrough at Anfield following a successful half-season loan stint with League One side Bristol Rovers last season, the centre-back believes he wasn’t previously at the level required to play for the first team, with his patience now paying off. “At that period you think to yourself you’re ready, but looking back, I was nowhere near where I needed to be,” he said. “So if I would have got on then it maybe would have been a different story.
Two years on from that first matchday squad appearance and it’s a very different story for Quansah. And with both the League Cup and Europa League offering senior opportunities this season, he’s hoping to benefit from more regular game-time. “So that will keep building. Hopefully after a few more games and if it gets consistent, I’ll start to show the level that I think I am.”
“I just wanted the opportunity in pre-season to try to show what I could do,” he told the club website. “That was it really, I didn’t really think too far ahead.
