Muffins in Town Hall Street opened back in 1974 and is known for its milky coffee and full English breakfasts
For almost half a century Muffins has been the café of choice for many in Blackburn. Its cosy interior, including the strange mezzanine section running along the side, will spark fond memories for anyone whose grandparents took them there for dinner during a shopping trip and the homemade, hearty meals are beyond comforting.
For now, alongside the meat and potato pies, sandwiches and soup, the menu at Muffins now has a range of Chinese meals on offer. And while I adore Chinese food - Singapore fried rice is my go to comfort food - I didn't expect to find myself eating a toastie and soup alongside a smell which can only be equated to a Chinese takeaway. It just didn't feel right for the setting.
My toastie was spot on although the accompanying salad might as well not have been on the plate. It was lacklustre to say the least and I've never understood how only Morrisons seem capable of getting coleslaw perfect. The soup would have been even better if it had been the variety including stilton. But I suppose not everyone is a fan of blue cheese like me.
