Balti sauce from Patak's has been put to the test against own-brand versions from supermarkets to try and save money
A takeaway curry is a failsafe treat - but it's really not something to be dined on every day. Midweek meals usually call for something quick, easy and affordable to be rustled up at home, making jars of ready-made curry sauce a decent alternative.
Emily said two of them "tasted better than Patak's" while one was "almost as good" as a takeaway. Here's how she fared. A 450g jar of Patak's sauce cost us £2.15, which was more than double the price of the Asda own-brand alternative. Overall, I rated the branded sauce a 3.5/5. M&S Marks and Spencer's balti sauce was nearly as pricy as the branded version at £2 for a smaller 340g jar. The curry smelled incredible in the pan and was noticeably darker in colour than the Patak's sauce.
The curry had a nice level of spice to it - it left my tongue tingling, but wasn't overpowering. The overall flavour wasn't quite as nice as the Patak's sauce, so we rated Asda's balti a 3/5.
