It always spirals into a debate over who's version of said word is correct (Lancashire, obviously)
A woman from Lancashire says she is often left baffled by how many things get completely lost in translation with her boyfriend despite them living only 20 minutes apart.
It was happening so often that she started writing the words down in her notes and figured it would make a pretty funny story. Here's a list of all the words Amy's very Yorkshire boyfriend says that she has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Likewise my family, myself included, had never heard of anything so ridiculous as calling a maiden a clothes horse, in fact we had to Google both phrases to prove our conflicting points!
'Snap' or 'Jock' These apparently have the same meaning as the above, although if I understand correctly from my Yorkshire lessons, 'snap' or 'jock' can be used to describe any form of food not just a packed lunch? . In Lancashire such person would simply be a scruff or a tramp - but I do actually think scratter has quite the ring to it and it's quickly become my new favourite insult.
The other day he came out with "I worked on that house when I used to do scotcher's"...when you used to do what sorry?!
