William Thompson issued a chilling threat to his victim after a brutal attack
A balaclava-clad thug attacked an old school friend outside a shop following a petty dispute before threatening him if he went to the police.
Events escalated following a dispute between the man’s cousin and Thompson’s girlfriend, prosecutor Andrew MacKintosh said. The victim spoke to Thompson, who he’d known from school, who told him ‘it’s just stuff to do with my girlfriend’. Two men wearing balaclavas got out, before two others got out of the side door. Each was wearing a balaclava.
The incident finally came to an end when the shopkeeper managed to close the hatch to the till, preventing the men from coming any closer. In a statement read to the court, the man said he has been unable to return to work, and that every time he goes outside he thinks ‘someone is coming for him’. Mitigating, Eleanor Gleeson said her client was not wielding a weapon and did not cause the injury to the victim’s head, though he accepted he played a leading role in the attack.“He believes he has let these people down. He grew up in a family of good morals and he knows he needs to change.”
