Olivia Beckford wasn't going to let anything stand in the way of her Hollywood dream
As a child, Olivia Beckford had just one wish – to make it out of the Anson estate in Longsight. The 27-year-old grew up in a struggling household with six siblings but knew she was destined for stardom.
Determined not to let her dream die, Olivia rode her bike to the building and asked the owner if she could join on a scholarship. To her surprise, the owner agreed – and the rest is history. “It’s been a struggle and a fight, but when I look back, I just feel so proud. It was so hard to get through, but I was able to get through. It’s not been easy.”
“It could have gone another way. It gave me a purpose.” Once Olivia reached 18, she attended college but quickly realised it was not the path she wanted to take. After travelling to the capital via Megabus as she didn’t have enough cash for the train, Olivia left the audition thinking she hadn’t been successful.
