Funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority will support Stockport's Royal George Village project
Hundreds of new flats will be built in Stockport thanks to an £8 million funding boost announced today.
It involves converting the 115,000ft Torkington Building into 122 flats, and demolishing the Lyme Centre to make way for a 258-home apartment block. The grade II listed Greek Street Building, the former Metropolitan Girls’ School, will be converted into collaborative co-working space for local businesses, and a new-build gateway building constructed providing 62 apartments at the corner of Greek Street and Royal George Street.
Stockport is the only Greater Manchester borough not part of the Places for Everyone scheme, a plan across Greater Manchester to boost homes and jobs in the region.
