The First Minister was visiting the town on Monday morning to assess the damage caused by the storm.

Humza Yousaf has told residents in Brechin that it will be a "long road to recovery" after the town was hit by Storm Babet.

Residents living in River Street were first alerted to the danger of the body of water overtopping local flood defences on Thursday as heavy downpours caused levels to rise rapidly. Respite centres were set up in the town for individuals and families forced to leave their homes and residents only started returning in large numbers on Sunday to assess the damage. He was heard telling one: “We’ll support you as much as we can.”Yousaf visited a home which was flooded following heavy rain on River Street. The First Minister also met and thanked emergency service and search and rescue staff who have been working since the storm hit.

Conservative councillor Gavin Nicol, who represents the Brechin and Edzell Ward on Angus Council, called for more funding from the Scottish Government.
