The First Minister should listen to SNP stalwart Fergus Ewing's warning over “nonsensical” SNP policies, says Mail Opinion.
It was a mark of respect the older man had earned over a 50-year career helping build the SNP into the election-winning force the First Minister inherited.
Last week the SNP suspended him for a week – during which time he will be forced to sit as an independent MSP – as punishment for going against the government in a vote of no confidence in Green minister Lorna Slater. Top news stories today The now abandoned deposit return scheme – over which Slater has responsibility – was a disaster, business lost millions and massive compensation demands are likely.
On Thursday the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election will provide a fascinating insight into whether Ewing’s fear that his party has lost the confidence of voters is well founded. If as expected the result is a nasty wake-up call for the SNP, Yousaf will be left with two options.
