has officially been selected to be the sixth first minister of Scotland after narrowly defeating his rivals in the race to lead the SNP.one of the most powerful political roles in the country, after being backed to succeed Nicola Sturgeon by parliamentarians in the SNP and Scottish Greens.
After formally winning the vote, he will be sworn in as first minister of Scotland at the Court of Session in Edinburgh on Wednesday, and then on Thursday will face rival party leaders in his opening First Minister’s Questions. He said that the SNP leadership contest showed him are many people ‘feeling the significant pressures of the cost-of-living crisis’, and vowed to lead Scotland ‘through the tough times.’
