Two people have reportedly been taken to hospital after a fire ripped through a hotel being built in the heart of Hong Kong’s shopping district.

Scaffolding was engulfed by the flames while burning embers littered down below Middle Road in Tsim Sha Tsui of southern Kowloon.

reported that two motorists were injured and have been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for treatment.The fire was first spotted at around 11pm, with the bamboo scaffolding near the top of the 42-storey complex seen alight. Embers raining down the neighbourhood saw the Chung King Mansion on Nathan Road, the Fast East Mansion and a shopping complex on 26 Nathan Road also set alight.
