Liz Truss's plan to block a rise in benefits plunges Tories into a civil war
Speaking at a fringe event, he said the Government was in the middle of providing support for the cost of living through cuts to bills and payouts.
“My personal view is I don’t see what will be gained but I do see what will be gained by making sure that they have enough money through the winter, because that money will flow back into the economy at the very time that we need the economy to be growing.” Asked if state benefits would be increased in line with inflation, he said: “It’s a very high inflation rate and wages I think are going up at 5 per cent lower than the CPI but I haven’t made any decisions.
