It forms part of a major local radio overhaul
The BBC has announced 48 jobs will be lost in a major local radio overhaul that's expected to significantly reduce content made for specific regional stations. It comes as £19 million is being put toward online and multimedia content in a bid to keep up with 'audience expectations'.
Locally BBC Nottingham has not confirmed if any of its team will be reduced but it will share afternoon content with Stoke and Derby. Nottingham will continue to have its own breakfast and mid-morning programming but there is no confirmation if staff are at risk of redundancy. Under the proposed plans, BBC stations will increase shared programming from 2pm until 6pm with other nearby stations. Local programming will continue from 6am until 2pm.
There will also be 11 new investigative reporting teams with the creation of 71 new journalism roles. The new teams will produce stories across TV, radio and online services along with producing 20 TV documentaries each year. It will also create 43 new local areas and dedicated services for Bradford, Wolverhampton, Sunderland and Peterborough. Local stories will be easier to find under changes proposed for the online services.
