Patients are being asked to visit 'the most appropriate place' for treatment

A Greater Manchester hospital trust has issued a warning to patients with its A&E department under pressure. Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Bolton Hospital, told patients it was experiencing 'very high levels of activity' last night .

The trust moved to reassure people that the 'most seriously ill and injured patients' would be seen immediately. But other patients were being urged to find alternative places for care and treatment while the hospital deals with the strain. A spokesperson for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust said: "Our Emergency Department is currently experiencing very high levels of activity. No matter how busy our Emergency Department is, the most seriously ill and injured patients will always be seen immediately."If you choose to visit us and do not need urgent or emergency treatment, you will be safely supported to access an alternative service.

Hospitals across Greater Manchester issued a number of warnings over hectic emergency departments last autumn and winter, along with North West Ambulance Service. It came as the NHS battled a combination of the usual winter pressure, plus a backlog following the pandemic and industrial action.
