Tony Chambers bought a Grade II-listed home in Greater Manchester a year before leaving the Countess

A hospital boss facing mounting scrutiny over claims he shut down warnings about baby killer Lucy Letby has walked away from the NHS with a £1.5m pension. Tony Chambers bought a £550,000 Grade II-listed home in Bolton with his wife in 2017.

Mr Chambers’ riches emerged as scrutiny mounted yesterday over his handling of Letby - and as whistleblowers claimed lives could have been saved if the Countess of Chester had called police earlier. Letby, 33, was convicted on Friday at Manchester Crown Court. According to Dr Brearey, the CEO insisted the consultants apologise to Letby - warning them that a line had been drawn and there would be 'consequences' if they crossed it. Mr Chambers later reportedly denied saying Letby had done nothing wrong and said he was paraphrasing her father.

It quoted him as saying there was an occasion when 'she happened to be in the same coffee shop I was in with some senior colleagues... we said nothing other than hello. It is wrong to characterise such a brief and chance encounter as inappropriate'.
