Homelessness charities are seeing a 'very sharp spike' in the number of people with mental health problems who they support, polling shared exclusively with i shows
“All I was getting from my doctor was come back next week, we’ll have a think about it. Giving us tablets for mental health and it wasn’t working. It was just making us worse,” he said.“I was waking up some days and thinking: ‘am I still here? What’s the point of being on earth?’ That’s how bad I was getting. And when I was speaking to the doctors about it they were saying ‘Don’t worry about your mental health. Your mental health seems alright.
“In the Newcastle area when you’re trying to get support it’s ridiculous because of how many budget cuts there have been. And it’s harder and harder to get appointments to see workers because they haven’t got enough money to help everybody…It’s getting really, really bad. Even to see your doctor now it’s three weeks,” he said.
