The Egyptian was the subject of an £150m verbal bid from Al-Ittihad last week, which was rejected by the Reds. Club bosses remain adamant that the 31-year-old is not for sale, and consider the matter closed, despite the Saudi Pro League side plotting an improved offer before their transfer deadline on September 7.
“I haven’t spoken to him about the situation,” he told the Athletic. “Obviously I spoke to him briefly over the past week or two in terms of he was asking if I was okay, everything was all right, how I’m settling in, the normal sort of stuff.
