The boy has since told his parents Johnathan Harris kicked him in the stomach during the violent assault
An evil man battered a three-year-old boy leaving him with injuries similar to those suffered in a high-speed crash.
Harris, a dad-of-two himself, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at an earlier hearing. As his dad read out his statement to the court, he asked "How can a grown man do that to a small child?" He added: "At first I was so angry that someone could do that to my boy. It is something I will never forget, it is just learning how to deal with that fact that a full grown man could do that to my young boy...No child should have those memories. We will never know the true extent of what happened that day. What could he have done to deserve that? This is a question we will never get answers for.
Mitigating, Andrew Blair Semple said the offence Harris, of East Thorpe View in Nottingham, committed also affects his own family. He said: "His dad sits in court in utter disbelief at what his own child - now a man - was found to be capable of. His mum has a heart condition and can't bring herself and has been dissuaded from coming to court to hear the doom of this case."
It was said that Harris had "not moved on like nothing had happened" and has lost contact with his own children and has moved in with his mother and father. The court heard he has no previous convictions.
