Neighbours have been left heartbroken as plans to create a community centre on green space were approved. On June 7, Broxtowe Borough Council passed plans for a multi-million-pound centre on land at Hickings Lane Recreation Ground, Stapleford.
"My grandad was born in 1898 and played for Stapleford Cricket Club and then my mum and dad used to go there and play boules. The ground should be for all. "I don't understand. We as residents intend to appeal the decision, we don't feel like we've been properly consulted. "It's really sad, we've lived here for 40 years, and there have been problems in the park in the past but it seems a shame to get rid of the green area that was a saviour during lockdown.
