Guys Eating Establishment, located at Guy's Thatched Hamlet, received the lowly score after inspectors visited the Bilsborrow restaurant in February. Particular concern was raised over food safety management which was rated as "major improvement needed". The two other areas assessed - hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - received a less severe but still unsatisfactory rating of 'improvement needed'. Those ratings combined for an overall score of one star with major improvement needed.Guy's Thatched Hamlet has been welcoming families for more than 40 years.
Hygiene inspections are periodically carried out at food businesses including small retail outlets, caterers, butchers, sandwich bars, dairies, and large manufacturing premises.Council, which awarded the one star rating, says it follows government codes of practice for its inspection service and issuing of food hygiene ratings.
It said: "Officers have the right to enter and inspect premises at all reasonable hours, except domestic premises where notice will be given. How often routine inspections happen depends on the potential risk posed by the type of business and its previous record."Sometimes inspections are carried out following the receipt of consumer and hygiene complaints. Revisits may be necessary to check the completion of works and give advice.
