Michael Beale and his troops go into the Old Firm clash on the back of a Champions League hammering by PSV as their dream of reaching Europe's top table for the second successive season came to a thumping end
Graeme Souness says Rangers simply CAN'T lose to Celtic this weekend as he detailed why an Ibrox return NEVER happened.
Souness knows the Glasgow rivals face a real tough order on the European stage due to the massive difference in budgets. That is something that reverses when they play domestically but on the continent he's described the gulf as 'enormous'. He also made reference to Bournemouth - his local side - and how they have buckets of cash to spend in comparison to Rangers and Celtic and they are a fraction of the size.
He said: "Yes in many ways it is. The game is at Ibrox, the Rangers supporters will turn up and forget about the midweek result. The full focus will be on creating an atmosphere to help their team beat Celtic. It's a game they cannot lose. It's a big game for Rangers now but also a big game for Celtic.
"And that is in reversal when you get back to the Scottish league itself. I can remember we had one player who was worth more than the whole squad we played against. It is reverse from them when they go into Europe. It was always going to be difficult but disappointing to go out of the Champions League having conceded five goals.
Souness is a judge as part of Sky Bet's Real Football Number Ones campaign and he has explained why he wanted to get involved in the mission to find those who are always making a difference across the UK.
